Welcome to Level ONE Reading Books (4 - 5 years)

At level one, children are gaining a little more confidence and may know some words by sight. Children are beginning to read more varied sentence structures and taking some note of punctuation.

Tasks

    • Can you Locate and recall the title?
    • Can you use known words to check and confirm reading?
    • Can you read the text in a rhythm?
    • Can you repeat new words, phrases or sentences to check, confirm or modify your reading?
    • Can print with eyes, finger-pointing only at points of difficulty?
    • Do you notice any punctuation?
    • Cross-check all sources of information more quickly while reading.
    • Take note of familiar words and phonemes and use these to help with the reading of new words.
    • Do you notice any relationships between one text and another.
    • Can you predict your next thoughts on the story?
